The following are the expressions of a few of the many happy patients of Ventura Ophthalmology and Bryant J. Lum, MD. If you would like to contact one of these patients to speak to them personally, please call our office at (805) 648-6891.

"...Having the LASIK procedure has been a liberating experience. For thirty years my life was directed by the needs of my glasses and contacts. I was so nearsighted I couldn't read without them. For SCUBA diving I had a prescription mask. Water skiing I could only see the wake and rope. Snow skiing I either had terrible dry eyes from my contacts, or London's own fog adherent to my glasses.

"...As a family practice physician locally for thirteen years, I know well the medical community and their capabilties. My vision is now 20/20. Mere words do not describe how this changes my world. Without reservation I give Dr. Lum my highest recommendation."

"...My eyes are of paramount importance to me. I had worn either glasses or contact lenses ever since elementary school for correction of my severe astigmatism and severe nearsightedness The largest "E" on the eye chart was an unintelligible blur without corrective lenses.) When I considered LASIK surgery, as a physician myself, I looked for a surgeon with both excellent technical skill and careful attention to follow-up care, in order to maximize my chances of a good outcome. I am grateful for the outstanding care I received from Bryant J. Lum, MD. My uncorrected vision is now 20/20. LASIK surgery performed by a skilled physician such as Dr. Lum is truly one of the miracles of modern medicine."

I started wearing glasses in the fourth grade. I never knew that the alphabet was directly over the blackboard until I got my first pair of glasses. Later on in the sixth grade, my vision became worse and I went into bifocalsthis was very hard on a child of 12 years.

I can remember countless times that my glasses were broken playing normal games that children do. I remember one time I just got a pair of new glasses, and we had gone to the beach with the church group. I put my glasses under my beach towel and, of course, someone moved the towel and the glasses were never found.

I struggled with my vision, but it kept getting worse as my glasses got thicker. At that time my lenses were made of glass, and my poor nose always had indentations from the heavy pressure.

Finally, after many years I met Dr. Bryant J. Lum. He told me of a new procedure called LASIK surgery. After watching a short video and a painless examination, he told me that I was a candidate for the surgery. He told me that I would probably be completely out of my glasses.

So, I finally decided to have this done. It was late on a Thursday afternoon. Dr. Lum was so good about explaining every step of the procedure. The surgery actually took about 20 minutes. After the surgery Dr. Lum took me to this room were I sat in an examination chair. To my surprise my vision was already focusing! I could actually see things on the walls, and  most of the eye Eye Chart. I could even start to read the letters! It was so amazing. By the time I was getting ready to leave, my eyes had improved to the point I could read the line needed to pass your drivers license test.

I took Friday off from work and over the weekend I was experiencing new things with my vision. I had no pain, no discomfort or headaches - only the excitement of my new vision. Dr. Lum even made himself available to be on call to answer any questions that I might have had over the weekend.

It will be two years coming up this October since I had the surgery done. No more worrying about losing my glasses, no messy contact solutions to mess with. After the surgery I never put my glasses on again. I have had no problems, only the fun of gong out and buying sunglasses. I do encourage anyone who is interested in this to give Dr. Lum a call and not wait another day. I am so glad to have had this done, and I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Dear Dr. Lum,

I'm writing this letter in appreciation of the outstanding work you have done, and continue to do, as a highly skilled Ophthalmologist.
As you recall, my major complaint was watching my vision deteriorate over the years, and constantly dealing with dry, itchy eyes. Being a nurse, and working twelve hour shifts, this was a constant irritation. Every hour I was placing artificial tear drops in my eyes  in order to get through the day. I must say this was quite annoying.
Now, thanks to your expertise and generosity, I have excellent vision. You have been patient throughout my treatment. I am utterly amazed at how sharp my eyesight is after my LASIK procedure.
My gratitude to you and your staff, for such professionalism and a caring touch, in which I was always given.

     Sincerely yours,

Donna Camilleri

In August 1998 Dr. Bryant Lum performed Lasik eye surgery on me. The procedure lasted about 12 minutes from the moment I laid in the chair to the moment I stood up. I allowed other patients considering Lasik eye surgery to watch from a viewing window to witness how safe, simple and satisfactory this procedure is. One witness was actually my husband. He has also undergone the surgery is now burden-free from wearing contacts and eye glasses.
We've asked each other, "Now that you've been through the Lasik eye surgery, would you do it again?" We each answered "yes."

I had worn glasses or contact lenses for nearly 50 years. Dr. Lum performed LASIK refractive surgery on me some 18 months ago. The procedure is quick, with minimum irrritation. The result 20/20 vision! It's such a pleasure not having to deal with glasses or contact lenses. I enjoy the outdoor sports, such as hunting and target shooting. It's so neat to have "crisp" vision again! Thank you, Dr. Lum!

I'm a 67 year old woman who has had Multiple Sclerosis for 30 years. I've worn contact lenses for 50 years but lately I was having difficulty putting them in so I decided to have Dr. Lum perform Lasik eye surgery on me. There was no pain and it is truly a miracle -- I wake up in the morning able to see everything with my 20-20 vision; I can read the phone book, and newspaper, and have thrown away all my contacts and glasses.

Thank you so much for the excellent outcome of my recent cataract surgery on both eyes! I attribute this to your outstanding surgical skill.
The new lenses which you implanted have clarified my vision to the extent that I can now easily read and drive my car. Last week I received a new driver's license, having passed both the written and the vision tests one hundred percent.
    Daily life is a pleasure.
As a result of my personal high regard for you and your professional expertise, four members of my family have come to you for LASIK surgery, and all of them are happy with the beneficial results.
Thank you again for your ophthalmic and surgical skills. My family and I are especially appreciative of them -- and of the fact that you practice in Ventura!

Dear Dr. Lum:

I'm writing to let you know how very thankful and grateful I am to you for helping to save my life!
You knew something was wrong and sure enough, January 25 of 1999, I had a tumor removed a long with 90% of my pituitary gland. The tumor was not cancerous.
I hate to lose you as my Doctor, but that's HMOs for you.
Again Dr. Lum, you are a special Doctor for whom I have the utmost respect.

     Sincerely Yours,
